Marina Bay (left)
Marina Bay is the modern heart of Singapore and one of the metropolis's youngest districts. The area was largely created through land reclamation and developed into a world-renowned center for architecture, entertainment, and luxury within just a few decades. Numerous landmarks such as the Singapore Flyer, Gardens by the Bay, and Marina Bay Sands are located here. The bay is also particularly known as the venue for the nocturnal Formula 1 Grand Prix, which spectacularly showcases the skyline every year.
Merlion (right)
The Merlion is Singapore's most famous landmark and the symbol of the city. This mythical creature with a lion's head and a fish's body combines Singapore's history and identity: the lion stands for strength and courage, the fish for its origins as a fishing village by the sea. The 8.6-meter-high statue was erected in 1972 and now stands in Merlion Park, overlooking Marina Bay. For visitors, it is one of the city's most popular photo opportunities.
