Gardens by the Bay (left)
Gardens by the Bay is one of Singapore's most spectacular park complexes, stretching over 101 hectares directly on Marina Bay. Especially famous are the futuristic Supertrees, giant artificial tree structures that provide shade during the day and glow in colorful light shows at night. The complex is complemented by the impressive Flower Dome and Cloud Forest conservatories. The park combines nature, technology, and architecture and is now considered a symbol of Singapore's vision of a "City in a Garden".
Merlion (right)
The Merlion is Singapore's most famous landmark and the symbol of the city. The mythical creature with a lion's head and fish's body combines Singapore's history and identity: the lion stands for strength and courage, the fish for its origin as a fishing village by the sea. The 8.6-meter-high statue was erected in 1972 and now stands in Merlion Park with a view of Marina Bay. It is one of the most popular photo opportunities for visitors to the city.
