Gherkin Tower (left)
The Gherkin Tower, officially "30 St Mary Axe", is one of London's most striking modern buildings. The 180-meter high skyscraper was built between 2001 and 2004 according to designs by Norman Foster and Ken Shuttleworth. Due to its characteristic shape, the building quickly earned the nickname "The Gherkin". The glass facade consists of numerous triangular elements and gives the tower its distinctive appearance. Today, the Gherkin is one of the most famous landmarks on the London skyline and symbolizes the city's modern architecture.
